Compliance & AML Resume Guide

Why Your Compliance Resume
Gets Filtered by ATS Systems

Most compliance professionals write resumes for human readers. But the first gatekeeper is a Boolean search engine — and it's filtering you out before any recruiter sees your name.

The ATS Visibility Gap in Compliance

Recruiters searching for compliance professionals use exact Boolean strings — not keyword proximity, not semantic matching. They type something like:

"BSA" AND ("AML" OR "anti-money laundering") AND ("SAR" OR "suspicious activity") AND ("Actimize" OR "Mantas" OR "NICE") AND ("CAMS" OR "CRCM" OR "CFE")

If your resume doesn't contain those exact strings, you don't appear in results — regardless of your actual experience. This is the gap Decoder was built to diagnose.

Common Keyword Mismatches

What compliance pros write vs. what recruiters actually search

BSA compliance
Bank Secrecy Act

Missed in 80% of recruiter searches

AML monitoring
anti-money laundering transaction monitoring

Too vague for Boolean filters

Regulatory reporting
FINRA / OCC / CFPB reporting

Regulator names are the search term

Risk management
Enterprise Risk Management (ERM)

Generic — competes with every industry

Internal audits
MRA / MRIA remediation

Examination language is filtered separately

5 ATS Fixes for Compliance Resumes

01

Name your regulators explicitly

Don't write 'regulatory compliance' — write 'CFPB, OCC, and FINRA oversight.' Recruiters run Boolean searches like: BSA AND (OFAC OR FinCEN OR SAR). If your resume doesn't contain those exact terms, you're invisible.

02

Replace ownership verbs

Words like 'assisted,' 'supported,' and 'helped' kill your seniority signal. Replace with 'directed,' 'owned,' 'designed,' and 'led.' ATS systems score leadership language and seniority markers separately.

03

Add tool names in full

If you used Actimize, write 'NICE Actimize transaction monitoring.' If you used Archer, write 'RSA Archer GRC.' Recruiters filter by exact tool names — abbreviations and shorthand don't match.

04

Quantify scope, not just outcomes

Add the scale of what you did: '3 product lines,' '120+ SAR investigations quarterly,' '$2B in monitored transactions.' Scope signals seniority to both ATS and human reviewers.

05

Use the examination vocabulary

Terms like MRA (Matter Requiring Attention), MRIA, examination findings, corrective action plan, and consent order are exact phrases recruiters search. If you handled any of these, say so explicitly.
